On the Makeshift Musician, I once wrote that an artist should be composing on a daily basis, to strengthen their creative muscle. Now, here I was writing about this and not actually doing it. That's a little embarrassing, don't you think? So now I've decided to, as my own exercise, compose and produce a new song every week.

The song can be any genre I think up and there's no requirement other than I finish the song by Friday every week. My initial plan is to keep this up for three months. At that point I'll re-evaluate the situation and decide wether I want to keep going.

May

May 29th, 2009 - Artificial Fire - A totally sweet ambient piece. background noise recorded in the San Jose and Chicago airports. Bonus points if you can guess what I'm reading aloud.

May 22nd, 2009 - 8-Bit Cheese-Fest - The name says it all. Contains 90% All-Natural synthesis.

May 15th, 2009 - Electric Mountain - Another experiment, this time in atmosphere and effects. Has elements of rock and electronic, but really sounds like niether.

May 8th, 2009 - Conjecture and Conclusion - Barely a real song. More of a grand experiment in garish overproduction. Dark and loud.

May 1st, 2009 - Cycles - Something a little different this week: solo piano.

April

April 24th, 2009 - By Chance Within - A return to my older-style. Lots of bells and glitchy percussion.

April 17th, 2009 - Reflection - Since I didn't have much time this week, I grabbed an older, unfinished song and, applying electrodes and unholy lightning, brought it to hideous life, Frankenstein's-monster style.

April 10th, 2009 - Giant Step - Gentle, somewhat eccentric electronica. Inspired by the game EarthBound. Allison tells me it sounds a lot like William Orbit. Whoops!

April 3rd, 2009 - Alligator Generator - What happens when your music idea is too ambitious for a one week project? You get hastily made, uncomprimising harpsichord rock.

March

March 27th, 2009 - Hades - A few years back I went to a Google holiday party, and one of the rooms was a fantastic lounge area with a Hades theme and some fine, atmospheric jazz music. This song was inspired by that.

March 20th, 2009 - I Am Summer Inside - Happy acoustic with some fun chords.

March 13th, 2009 - Love from Second Floor - Electronica in 5/4 time. That means you count 1-2-3-4-5 instead of 1-2-3-4 in your head. It may sound a little wonky. Trivia: the Mission: Impossible theme is in 5/4 time.
